FoXxfire Thatcher: Turning SL Upside Down

…….for L$250 that is. [Syntrax Corporations]’s ([SC]) New “Roof Walker” HUD gadget, is, in my opinion, very original. Simply click the little human that is upside down on the HUD Interface, and watch your avatar turn upside down, and glide up the ceiling. When I met up with FoX to see a demo of the roof walker, I was going through my IM’s during the demo, suddenly, he says “look”, but I don’t see him anywhere, I go into mouse look, and see him walking upside down on the ceiling. I couldn’t help but let out a chuckle, and so I decided to buy it and give it a spin for myself. As I said before, this is a very original and fun toy, and I recommend it to anyone. Although the price seems ridiculously high for some mildly complex but not difficult scripting, this is still a very nice product, and is a must-have for anyone. Just one word of advice though: don’t use it if you don’t have a ceiling on top of you.

Revision: FoXxfire Thatcher requested we mention Clash Drakes, because that is who gave him the original idea.

This looks familiar… has somebody else done it before?

I like the idea, but its over priced in my opinion. But that just means I won’t buy it :)

  2. Foxx Says:

It isn’t over priced, =/. The price is reasonable, if not under-priced. Money in TSL just doesn’t circulate like it should.

  3. Katharine Berry Says:

What you seemingly fail to realise, Foxx, is that on the TG there is zero relation between the L$ and the US$. Pricing stuff assuming there is will invariably be overpriced. Indeed, before we had access to the LindeX nobody would have tried to defend that as being under-priced.

  4. Benett Carter Says:

Personally, I do think it is over-priced, but it is the only one on the grid, so FoX can pretty much price it any way he wants. Either way, I enjoy it and find it very amusing, and would still reccomend it to a lot of people, it just so hilarious, walking on the ceiling all of a sudden ;)

  5. Clash Darkes Says:

Heh… Thanks for mentioning me Fox, and i’ve said before I think its overpriced, but your right about the fact the ecconomy bites on MG that would be underpriced. On TG however thats alot of money…

  6. Whelman Says:

Hehe, I can’t find the place.

  7. Asuka Martin Says:

TG and MG lindens are worth the exact same amount LindeX-wise… but because of the lack of buyers on the teen grid, businesses are forced to be far more competitive here than they are on the main grid (as a result, the very low TG prices, and lower business profits *sighs*) Too bad the economies are so separate.
Most residents here don’t recognize the link between Lindens and real money, and are more likely to consider 250L “overpriced”.

  8. Katharine Berry Says:

That’s because you assume that people sell money to buy stuff. They don’t. As such, sellers and buyers have different conceptions of “cheap” (seller - L$250 = cheap. Buyer - L$20 = cheap).

I don’t sell stuff. I don’t buy stuff. I consider L$250 pointlessly expensive for things like this. (Yet I’d happily spend that much on clothing and such. Hum. Double standard?)

  9. Asuka Martin Says:

“Assume that people sell money to buy stuff.”? lol I don’t assume.
I sell my lindens every month to pay for island tier, and the rest goes into my savings account for college. I purchased my island with entirely secondlife earned money (took me a couple of months). Friends of mine are selling their lindens for real money as well. Wicked is currently saving up for an island, and I know Mike Denneny is making a good amount of cash too.
I’m not saying everyone does this (most don’t, but saying that people do not is very far from the truth)
It is true though that everyone has their own idea of expensive vs. cheap. In my eyes 250L = 90 cents = cheap. Other’s may not see it this way.

  10. Katharine Berry Says:

I meant “buy money to buy stuff” - typo, sorry. I also meant the majority - obviously, some do.

The point is, prices need to be set based on what the buyer will pay, not what the seller would pay. Unless you’re selling to other sellers, of course. You can have your own private economy. :P

  11. Wicked Says:

I think that katharine needs to shut up because she doesn’t sell any items so she wouldn’t know how to price items reasonably.

Katharine thinks that Wicked needs to remember he’s posting on her server.

  12. Wicked Says:

Just because you have no idea of the relationship or creation and pricing does not mean you need to change the subject about whose server I’m posting on. Frankly, I don’t really care whose server I’m posting on, as long as I get the general message of the people out. Foxx will do great with his item priced the way it is. No one gave you the role to harshly critique his new item or let you have a say in how expensive it should be.

  13. Foxx Says:

Thanks, Wicked and Asuka. And Wicked, you are right. The reason I chose this product to be reviewed because it was an instant hit. I sold over 15-20 in the first week; and I never advertised it because I never thought it would be to good. But, I saw the success and decided to throw it out there to the public more.

  14. Katharine Berry Says:

Wicked, you miss the point. First is that I have every right to censor your insults. I, and indeed anyone else, also have the right to say that something costs too much. Furthermore, just because I don’t sell stuff any more, it doesn’t mean I’ve never sold stuff in the past. And am therefore, by your logic, equally well positioned to comment on pricing.

Furthermore, you completely ignored my previous point - most people will not buy L$, and thus do not care what something is worth in real terms, but instead about how much it’s worth relative to the effort it took to make the money in the first place.
