(Sigh) Thanks Linden Lab

Well, seeing how the new trademark policy has effectively, well, at least in my twisted brain, murdered the Second Life fansites (and because i can’t sleep now), let’s check the casualties and injuries:

This Blog: from teenslblog.com to teenmetaverse.net

Katharine Berry’s tslprofiles.com site, as well as tslblogs.com, and the long defunct tslemporium.com.

Note: Kath is our wonderful administrator and code monkey.

Long running sites such as slexchange.com will have to change.

To me, this measure is ironic, all of these sites stemmed from SL’s lack of features, and now they’ll all have to go get new domain names.

So, to leave you with a quote from Katharine Berry:

Thank you, Linden Lab, for obliterating months of work. It is appreciated. I hate you people (or at least whoever came up with this stupid idea.)

    Go LL…

  2. Warcat Gould Says:

Way to go LL yet again… Is it me…Or do they seem to have a knack at getting people to absalutely hate them? Things like these changes are not needed, and most certainly against much of the SL population.. are they TRYING to get everyone to leave it or something?
(ps: sorry about any bad spelling/grammer. wasent long since i woke up and saw this. XD)

  3. wicked Says:

why dont you just email or call LL and ask their permission to use Secondlife® trademark on your site?

  4. wicked Says:

    Actually
The blog didnt have to be changed, under the TM guidelines:
License To Use SL™ or inSL™. The words “SL” and “inSL” are different from the Second Life brand name, our distinctive Eye-in-Hand logo, and all of our other trademarks. Unlike these other trademarks, we’ve given you special permission to show the association of your business or organization with the Second Life virtual world by using “SL” or “inSL” with your business or organization name, product or service name, and Internet domain name, subject to our Guidelines and Terms and Conditions.

unless in the terms and conditions it says you cant I dont see why you cant

  5. Katharine Berry Says:

Said terms and conditions require two nouns. “Blog” is one noun. Furthermore, they stated that they WILL NOT GRANT permission to use their logo. And you can’t use “inSL” at all.

    Please read before speaking.

  6. Benett Carter Says:

The definition of “teen” as it is used in the name is not shown anywere, and according to the dictionary, “teen”, defined as “obsolete, grief, or harm” falls under nouns, and although not related to the bloga, is still a noun, and thus, blog+teen=2nouns, which means “SL” may be used.

  7. wicked Says:

Im very sorry I upset you Katber. I was just looking under the Trade Mark Guidelines when I saw that tidbit of information that may have caused you less grief, since you do have several sites that has SL in their name. I still don’t know why you say you cant use the consonants SL because I pasted you directly from the exclusive permissions section, but Im sure you have well enough experience to know what you are indefinitely talking about. Im sorry.

  8. Malifico bade Says:

Are we all filled with such word math?

  9. Katharine Berry Says:

Benett, they hold the trademark on “TSL” and “Teen SL” too. And the noun must be after “SL.”

    So that doesn’t work. :P

  10. Benett Carter Says:

Meh. I thought I’d give it a try.

  11. Cory Bjornson Says:

    On*

This is the most fail thing on earth.

Time to rub it in LL’s fais.
